Pure Latitude boat share club - FAQs

How do I join?

You’ll probably want to have a chat with us first but to join you simply download and complete the application form, and return to us with the joining fee. We will process your application, which involves  checking qualifications and experience, and invoice you for the membership fee. Contact us now if you want to discuss joining.

What does it cost?

Three membership levels are available see membership.

After membership and joining fee, are there any other fees or charges?

We take care of all the running costs – insurance, mooring, maintenance, etc.

Members are responsible for fuel, off base mooring and damage or loss, which is limited to the deposit, currently £1,500.

Any costs which you accrue will be invoiced monthly and charged by direct debit or to your credit card.

How does the deposit work?

We take a refundable damage deposit, currently £1,500. If any damage or loss occurs to a Pure Latitude boat share club or 3rd party boat, the cost of repair or the insurance excess, whichever is lower, will be charged to the member. The member will then top up his deposit to maintain it at the prevailing club deposit level.

How do the fuel charges work?

You pay for the fuel you use. For motor boats, where consumption is significant, we operate a 'take and return full' policy. For yachts, we have a simple charge based upon engine hours which we add to your account. If you refuel simply keep the receipt and email us details and we’ll adjust your account accordingly.

Do I need to sign a contract?

As with any business agreement – yes. Contact us for details.

Joint membership – can I share with a friend?

Generally no – except that life partners can be included in membership, subject to qualifications/experience. Contact us if you have a specific requirement.

What is the length of the contract commitment?

Twelve months or until such a time that you have used all your points, whichever is the shorter.

What qualifications or experience do I need?

A base level recognized qualification equivalent to coastal skipper or equivalent experience.

What happens if I use all my points before year is up?

The life of the Pure Latitude boat share club membership is controlled by points usage and time. Membership ceases when either of two events occur:

  • A member uses up their points allocation
  • 12 months passes from the date of joining

Members are welcome to renew as soon as any of these conditions are met.

If I renew my membership, what happens to my points from the previous year?

Points cannot be carried over to future year's membership.

Am I fully insured?

Yes, all members are fully insured under Pure Latitude's insurance policy. However, in the case of a claim being made the Member will be responsible for the payment of the excess – see deposit.

Can I see the fleet?

Take a look at our boats or call the office to arrange a visit. We also hold open days for you to talk to members and see the boats.

What safety standards do you operate to?

It goes without saying that safety is paramount in boating. All our boats are coded so carry all the required safety gear. We inspect regularly and follow a strict maintenance programme. All the Pure Latitude boat share club's boats are in sound condition and safe.

Will you be changing the boats at all?

Yes, Pure Latitude will review the boats on a half-yearly basis. All members will be invited to comment on replacements and upgrades.

How can I book boats?

Members can book boats through the membership log-in on the Pure Latitude baot share club website or by calling us.

When booking a weekend - is Friday a weekday or a weekend?

Friday is a weekday.

Can I stay overnight onboard?

Yes. Every booked day ends at 8 am the next morning.

Who is responsible for cleaning the boat?

The simple rule is "leave it as you’d like to find it" i.e. clean. We ask members to wash down the boat after use and remove their rubbish. If something goes unexpectedly wrong and you find the boat in a less than prepared state then please inform us via the simple check in/out process so that we can deal with it. If it’s urgent then call us immediately and we’ll do everything we can to get it put right and minimize any inconvenience.

We will have the boats professionally cleaned periodically, but the club requires a degree of trust and co-operation to get the most value from our sailing – that’s why it’s a club and not a boat charter operation.

Our maintenance programme keeps the boats in tip-top condition, above and beyond daily house-keeping.

How far can I take the boat?

If you are going beyond 20 miles from base we’d like you to tell us in advance. So if you fancy dinner in France, we won’t stop you. Just consider your combined experience and the boat, plus the usual factors of time, tide, distance and the weather.

How is the boat equipped?

The boats are coded to MCA category 2 and have a full inventory of cruising equipment – details on request. Normally you would bring your own wet weather clothing and, if overnighting, sleeping bags but we have a selection for hire if you need them.

Where are you based?

Initially, we will be based on The Hamble, Hampshire, just off the Solent. We plan a number of other bases in the UK and overseas.

Am I a ‘part owner’ when I join Pure Latitude?

No. Shared ownership brings many complexities so the boats are owned or leased by Pure Latitude. Our ‘shared use’ model provides all the sailing of shared ownership but without the ownership headaches – the best of all worlds.

Can I get training and assistance?

Training and skippers are available at additional coat see training.

Do you offer corporate memberships?

Yes, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
